2018-19 Tryout Registration is Open

We are preparing for the 2018-19 High School Hockey tryouts and looking forward to another great year of hockey. Important information on how to sign up, player requirements, financial payments and coach contacts are outlined below. We are hoping to ice three teams again this year – Varsity Gold, Varsity2 and our next generation of players, Junior Varsity. McKinney has been blessed with a strong hockey program with back to back State Championships in 2014/15 and 2015/16. Please tryout and make our program successful in 2018-19.

Go to our registration page to submit the tryout form. Tryouts are free and held at the McKinney Dr. Pepper Starcenter – 6993 Stars Avenue, McKinney, TX 75070

Players who are going into 8-12 grades and believe they should be considered for a varsity team should participate in the Varsity only tryout on Thursday, July 19th at 6:30 p.m. Players in 7-10th grades looking to make the JV team, should plan to be at the JV tryout on Friday, July 20th at 6:30 p.m. Although we hope that both varsity teams will be chosen on night one, the varsity coaches might ask some players to come back on night two. Please note, 7th graders must be birth-year 2005 or earlier to play high school hockey.

Please arrive 45 minutes early to check-in for the tryout. Players should bring dark and light-colored jerseys, preferably with their last name on it. All players will also receive a number plate to pin on.

Contract signings and uniform fittings will occur immediately following the tryouts for all players selected for a team. You must sign a contract to lock in your player’s spot on the team. Please bring your player’s USA Hockey Number for the 2018-19 season because that number will be required for contract signing. If your player has never played travel or high school hockey, please also bring a copy of the player’s birth certificate that we may submit to USA Hockey.

Our estimated fees for skaters this year are $2,000 for Varsity Gold and $1,750 for Varsity 2 or JV, if paid by cash or check (the cash/check discounted price). If paying by credit card, you will pay $50 more. The club fee pays for the practices for the teams, the league fee for all games, and coaches’ pay. For Varsity Gold, the fee also covers the State Tournament Fee. As with past years, goalies may play for free. We have tried to keep the price as low as possible while still having a balanced budget. Decreases in the number of players or the number of teams will change the fee amounts. Final fee amounts will be based on our total registration.

Additional items that you may have to purchase: USA Hockey registration, player equipment (please remember that black or navy helmets and gloves are required for skaters and that they will not be allowed to play with other colors), and uniforms (although returning players may continue to wear their existing uniforms).

We know many people have recently paid a considerable amount of money for travel hockey (as well as all the other normal expenses that go along with parenthood and life). We want to make it easier for you to afford to play high school hockey. Therefore, we have a couple payment plans that allow you to delay payments for the club fees (uniform and spirit wear costs need to be paid up front), including a plan with three payments (October 15, November 15, and December 15), and a plan with six payments (on the 15th of the month from September through February). We would certainly appreciate it if you can pay in full at signing, but there is no additional charge if you need to pay via one of the extended payment plans. Bottom-line, we want to make it is as easy as possible to afford to play high school hockey. If you plan to pay by check, we ask that you bring a sufficient number of checks for all required payments, i.e., if you want to pay via the plan with six payments, you need to bring six checks so that you can provide post-dated checks for each payment).

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the season and tryouts.

Thank you, and we hope to see you in a few weeks,

Darryn Edestrand

Congrats Chase Yoder on Being Named to U-17 National Dev Team

Congratulations to McKinney Ice Hockey Club Alum Chase Yoder on making USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program’s Under-17 Team. Chase will represent the USA in this prestigious two-year training program that features the best 2002 birth year players in the country.

Chase played for MIHC way back when he was a mite in 2009-10 (the only year the club had a mite team) and as a mite on the club's squirt team in 2010-11. Even back then everyone knew he was a superstar and that you should pass the puck to Chase.

Chase went onto play for the Dallas Stars Elite the last 7 seasons, but we still remember him in blue and gold with that big grin.
